How to use this sight words word search

Word searches are a low-stress way for early readers to look at a sight word letter by letter, which is exactly the skill these high-frequency words need. The Dolch list has 220 words in five levels. Here each level is split into two sets so a puzzle never gets crowded, and the one-letter words (a and I) are left out because a single letter cannot be hidden. Pick a set under the word box, or type your class list.

1. Pick a Dolch set from the buttons under the word box (pre-primer set 1 is loaded), or paste the words your class is working on this week.
2. Keep Easy selected for kindergarten and first grade: words only run left to right and top to bottom, the way children read.
3. Use a 10×10 or 12×12 grid so the letters print large, then press Print / Save PDF. The second page is the answer key.
4. Copy the share link into your lesson plan so you can print the identical puzzle again next year.

Teacher tips

• Read the word bank aloud together before starting, and have students point to each word as they find it.
• Short words like in and it also show up inside longer words such as find and little. Tell students that counts, then ask them to find the real one too.
• Send the same words home with a different grid: press New layout and print a second copy for homework.
• Pair the puzzle with sight word bingo on the same list for a Friday review game.
• For children still learning letter names, switch the letters to lowercase so the grid matches their books.
